SOCIAL JUSTICE

With a firm view that everyone deserves equal economic, political, and social rights and opportunities, particularly those in greatest need, my award-winning work at London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) and our unique pedagogy for social justice demonstrates how and why social enterprises can deliver high-quality Early Education and build sustainability which contributes effectively to delivering against the SDGs and drive social justice.

SOCIAL PEDAGOGY

I developed the LEYF Social Pedagogy to champion community-based, multi-generational Early Years education as the basis for greater social and cultural capital and deliver long-term social impact.

The LEYF Social Pedagogy is made up of seven interwoven strands, each one made from thousands of threads, all of which combine to form a strong learning rope that supports children, families, and professionals. This is underpinned by the idea that ‘every person has inherent potential, is valuable, resourceful and can make a meaningful contribution to the wider community if we find ways of including them.

SOCIAL LEADERSHIP

As a respected, transformative leader in the social enterprise and Early Years Education and Care (EYEC) sector, I have navigated LEYF through some incredible and difficult times. Social leadership is about developing innovation, agility and responsiveness to the immediate situation facing children and their families such as poverty, obesity, imprisonment. Social leaders build an organisational culture by drawing on the talents and ideas of everyone in the organisation whilst creating a culture, as well as systems and processes, that support leaders to harness ‘social energy’ across the organisation.

As CEO and creator of one of the UK’s largest and most successful charitable social enterprises, I continue to break new ground in the development of the London Early Year’s Foundation (LEYF)’s scalable social business model whilst remaining a tireless campaigner – looking for new ways to disrupt and influence policy and make society a better and more sustainable place for all children and families.
